"Detroit will never be the same city as it was before, but it will be a new city with new ideas and new dreams."

Detroit

Goal:

Respecting the tremendous legacy of the founders and their impact on our region, the goal is to strengthen economic, educational and cultural opportunities for citizens of Detroit while building the capacity of organizations providing for the basic needs of those in most need.

The premise of our work will be to activate all four of the Foundation's impact areas for the benefit of our Detroit community and to evolve the strategy over time in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values of the Foundation.

Guiding Principles:

We will seek to support programs and organizations that focus on four segments:

  • collaborating to improve the economic climate of the region,
  • promoting educational readiness for children ages zero to five and access for children to top performing schools,
  • creating targeted access to our region's cultural institutions for those who would not normally have the ability or awareness to take advantage of these resources, and
  • helping build capacity within organizations that serve the basic needs of the region's most vulnerable population.
